The first three pics were still at the boardwalk on Friday afternoon. The last of which was some kind of photo shoot that was getting pretty steamy from what we could see. Would liked to have gotten closer... but had to roll back to the hotel for some rest before the big event that night...
A sucker is born every minute, and we fell right into the trap. Near the Cabbage Patch in New Smyrna is the raceway. For $20 admission (which by the way was the most expensive non-race event at bike week where just about everything is free admission) we were supposed to be treated to an awesome bike demolition derby, bikini contest, etc etc. We were so amped up all week, and got majorly disappointed at the net results. We bailed out of there, expecting a riot of pissed-off bikers.
The next few pics were back at the Speedway Saturday for the big superbike race (at which Suzuki pretty much spanked the ass of the competition.) Again, the scale of the place is just unbelievable. The next observation sitting in the grand stands at turn one was just how freakin' insane these riders are. You think you're fast taking the offramp at 65? These fruitcakes are hitting 190+ and flying into the turns with such speed that their bikes literally slide sideways. You can watch it on speedvision all day long, but it just isn't the same. Insano.
The one night shot from the strip Saturday night was an attempt to show the transition from bike week to Spring Break. It made for quite an interesting clash from one to the other which actually raised tensions. The women were better looking but generally flashed middle fingers rather than naked boobies when prompted by the bikers and onlookers. Quite amusing.
The next three pics were from what was billed as a huge protest rally on Sunday against Daytona's prehistoric law banning naked female boobies. It was surely going to be one of the most photographed events since the first shuttle launch, but what was supposed to be "1500 protesters with over 150 going topless" turned out to be a handful of angry-looking chicks and a hairy dude with bitch tits carrying signs. What a letdown! I'm convinced that it was all just a ploy to keep the bikers in town for one more day. Ha!
The last four pics were from Greg's collection - his favorites. One makes me want to chunder... and I'll leave it up as an exercise of the reader to guess which.
